Composed in the 13th century by Imam Sharaf al-Din al-Busiri (d. 694 AH), the Qasidat al-Burda — The Poem of the Cloak — is a devotional masterpiece spanning over 700 years. Written during illness and paralysis, in longing for the Prophet ﷺ, the poem was born from a dream in which the Prophet ﷺ appeared and placed his cloak over the ailing poet — and he was cured.

About the author
Imam Sharaf al-Din al-Busiri
Imam Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd al-Buṣīrī (d. 694 AH / c. 1294 CE) was an Egyptian poet and scholar of Moroccan origin, known throughout the Islamic world for his extraordinary devotion to the Prophet ﷺ. He studied under the great saints and scholars of his era in Egypt and became one of the most celebrated poets in Islamic history.
Stricken by paralysis, he composed the Qasidat al-Burda in longing for the Prophet ﷺ. In a dream, the Prophet ﷺ appeared and covered him with his cloak — and upon waking, al-Buṣīrī found himself cured. The poem has been recited, memorised, and transmitted without interruption for over 700 years, in every language and on every continent where Muslims are found.
